At age 70, and nearing the end of his career
as a trapper and guide, Reg McKay has vivid
memories of his first voyage north from Fort
Chipewyan, Alberta, aboard the SS Athabasca,
the last paddlewheel steamer to ply the route
opened more than 200 years ago by explorers
and traders searching for a way to the Pacific.
