LEISA VESCARELLI is a Calgary-based freelance journalist, copywriter,
and marketing communications professional who’s still trying to kick her
bartending habit. She writes on everything from ski resorts and outdoor
gear to infrastructure, business, and construction—and she wouldn’t have
it any other way. In this issue Leisa looks at a University of Alberta study
into the air quality downstream of oilsands mining development.
MELANIE COLLISON has made a
specialty of reporting on technological
advances in the oilpatch and
the resulting improvements in
environmental impacts. A particular
focus is on the people who achieve
these successes. This month she
reports on the evolution of junior Grizzly
Energy, with former Devon thermal oil
head John Pearce at its helm.
NICKELAS “SMOKEY”
JOHNSON makes things,
including drawings, comics,
songs, fishing knots, costumes,
tales, and a fine breakfast.
This month Smokey visualizes
the shift of new projects from
mining to in situ.
